Gemini Trains gives exclusive interview

The chief excecutive of Gemini Trains, the new entrant to the cross-channel market, has given an exclusive interview to the Green Signals channel. Adrian Quine speaks frankly and at length to interviewer Richard Bowker in the video below.

We learn that Gemini are close to signing an order for new rolling stock to be built which they hope will operate by mid 2029. Their plan is to run two 200-metre trains that can function together or separately. They have requested just one 400-metre maintenance space in the Temple Mills depot, together with two storage roads outside, which they believe is achievable given the current condition of the depot.

Mr Quine described the company as going “full steam ahead” despite other competitors potentially crowding the market. He said that this is a unique opportunity to enter an “unreformed’ premium route where there is spare capacity and pent-up demand, and where passenger numbers are set to rocket in the next few years. Gemini have thought carefully about the style and design of trains with passenger comfort in mind and plan to offer two classes of service.

All of Gemini’s services will stop in Kent at Ebbsfleet, promised Mr Quine. He felt that there was huge demand in this area which is close to the M25. Ashford is under consideration for the future.

St Pancras High Speed (formerly HS1) and Getlink are both offering time-limited incentives to new entrants to this market. Asked whether fare prices would increase when these ran out, Mr Quine categorically said no because the service would be established by then.
