Direct UK-Switzerland trains planned
The UK and Swiss governments have signed a memorandum of understanding encouraging operators to plan direct train links from London to Zurich, Geneva and Basel. The stations would have to be fitted out with passport control facilities, and the Swiss Federal Railways will present a plan next year on how this could be achieved.
Note that these plans do not involve the Swiss railways in running a service, simply that existing operators (currently only Eurostar) are encouraged to create direct services. The plans were warmly welcomed by Eurostar’s CEO, Gwendoline Cazenave.
