ORR to allocate depot capacity to Eurostar rivals

The rail regulator, the Office of Rail and Road (ORR), has rejected Eurostar’s criticisms of its initial report indicating that the train depot at Temple Mills has capacity for more international train operators. It has concluded that the report is accurate, and that the depot does have room for other operators besides Eurostar.

Temple Mills matters because it is the only maintenance and storage depot in the south east that can handle international trains. Eurostar, currently its only occupant, have insisted that the depot has no space for anyone else. But as competitors start lining up to rival Eurostar in its cross-Channel service, the ORR has ruled otherwise.

The ORR is asking new entrants to the cross-Channel market to present detailed plans so that they an allocate depot space. It hopes to have concluded this process by 31st October.
