Kent stations to re-open “when we can afford it”

An article by Simon Calder in the Independent reports on a speech by Eurostar’s chief executive Gwendoline Cazenave insisting that the two disused stations on the route to the continent, Ebbsfleet and Ashford, would only re-open when the company can afford it.

Eurostar, which is majority owned by SNCF lost hundreds of millions of pounds during the pandemic when its passenger numbers fell below 1% of normal levels. In her speech, Ms Cazenave gave no estimated re-opening date, though 2025 has been touted most recently.

These remarks confirm the importance of making the business case to Eurostar or its future competitors on behalf of Kent: please support this in any way you can.
