Getlink offers cash to new cross-Channel rail operators
Getlink has always said there is plenty spare capacity for more passenger and freight services through the Channel Tunnel. Only Eurostar has operated any since the tunnel was opened, but other operators have shown an interest over the years especially recently. But the costs imposted by Getlink have created a high bar for potential Eurostar rivals.
Now Euronews reports that Getlink is offering cash incentives to future competitors over their first five years. Also, Alstom’s newest TGVs have been certified to run through the tunnel, clearing another hurdle.
