Eurostar still spurns Kent stations despite evidence of viability
Eurostar are still not stopping at Ashford and Ebbsfleet stations despite evidence that these stops would be financially advantageous to them. They have always maintained that they would resume the services “when it was commercially viable to do so”.
Ashford Borough Council have slammed the company for “exploiting their monopoly” after presenting evidence at a meeting last week that they stood to benefit by £45m by stopping at Ashford, and still received a rebuff according to an article in Kent Online.
The meeting was attended by officials from Kent County Council and Ashford Borough Council, Weald MP Katie Lam and Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce.
Tudor Price of Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce reminded the company that the service was funded with investment from the public purse on the understanding that trains would stop in Kent.
