International House, Ashford

Kent is home to a sizeable French community, many of whom arrived and settled with the start of international train services to France. French Senator Olivier Cadic was one of those who arrived early, during the start of this new wave of French arrivals.

Ashford Borough Council created a short video about some of Olivier’s early experiences, which you can watch here:

This coming Thursday, Olivier Cadic, together with a French grouping “Un Monde De Projets” (A world of projects), is helping to organise a meeting for French people living in Kent: “The French Kent Eurostar generation”. This event celebrates the French contribution to Kent and aims to support the campaign to bring back international train services to the county.

If you are a French national and are interested in attending, you can book your place using this Eventbrite link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/les-francais-du-kent-generation-eurostar-tickets-1987133614132

The meeting will be conducted largely in French.

A bit more background

The meeting is taking place ahead of the French Consular elections. French citizens in the UK continue to be able to vote in French elections, but they are also eligible to elect a local panel of nine consular representatives in the UK.

This election is approaching this coming May. Thursday’s meeting is organised by one of the “lists” contesting this election: “Un Monde De Projets” (A world of projects).

Note: Bring Back Euro Trains does not endorse this ‘list’ or any other ‘list’ in these elections.
