Gemini confirms interest in cross-Channel route
The British startup Gemini has revealed a detailed bid for launching a cross-Channel route all the way to Cologne in Germany. Gemini’s failure to get the spare maintenance capacity at the Temple Mills depot, awarded to Virgin last year, has not deterred them. They are set to lease eight electric 200m trains with capacity for more than 550 passengers, and intend to run about 11 services a day by 2023.
With capacity at St Pancras under pressure, Gemini intends to use Stratford International as its terminus. They hope to revive the direct service to Disneyland Paris and to stop at Ebbsfleet International and Ashford International. They will build their own maintenance depot, and there is even talk of this being in Ashford.
