Appendix: How we chose the stations

We have included the stations currently served by direct cross-Channel Eurostar trains, and the intermediate stops that were removed by Eurostar during the pandemic and never reinstated.

We added some further stations that were axed soon after the pandemic. Eurostar disingenuously lists some of them as destinations on their current website, but they require changes of train which was not necessary in the past.

We have also included a group of stations rated by rail commentator (and BBET) friend Jon Worth as capable of accommodating direct cross-Channel trails. Jon spent several months in 2025 evaluating 63 stations all over Europe and presented his report at a meeting in Brussels last November, attended by members of BBET’s core team. The report is accompanied by an interactive map with all the stations he visited, and how he rated them.

Stations currently served by direct cross-Channel trains:

Intermediate stops axed by Eurostar during the pandemic, and not yet reinstated:

Extra direct destinations removed by Eurostar during or immediately after the pandemic:

Stations rated by Jon Worth as capable of handling direct cross-Channel trains with minimal re-organisation:

So why Milan?

Despite its absence from the lists above, we added Milan because of the interest in cross-Channel traffic shown by Trenitalia. The company were not successful in their bid for maintenance space at the Temple Mills depot (The ORR chose Virgin) but they have extensive experience of running trains through France which they maintain at their depot in Milan.

Yes Trenitalia, who are still interested in the London-Paris route, are planning to build a depot in northern France for their cross-Channel trains. But aren’t we allowed to dream?
