Paris-Berlin sleeper train revived

A new sleeper train service has started to offer night journeys between Paris and Berlin nine years after the original service was scrapped by the German rail operator Deutsche Bahn. The new service is operated by OBB (Austrian railways) as part of its expanding Nightjet network. The first train, run on December 11, was sold out.

The train will offer a range of night-time accommodation including couchettes and private compartments. Read more about the service in Time Out, The Railway Gazette and The Independent.

While this news does not directly touch the BBET campaign, it is symbolic of a renewed interest in long-distance rail services throughout Europe which we hope will eventually include the UK. Passengers and rail operators are interested in sustainable alternatives to flying.
